We’re proud to see PPA alumni Rónán Johnson featured in a recent BBC News NI article for his powerful one-man performance in Called Out. ✨ Showcasing exceptional acting and storytelling, Rónán’s performance highlights the impact that actors have in bringing important narratives to life. The production has been engaging young audiences across Northern Ireland through compelling live theatre.
Written by Cahal Clarke and directed by Aoibh Johnson-Clarke — Rónán’s sister — the production is a powerful collaboration that brings authenticity to the stage.
The play explores important and timely themes, encouraging conversations around gender-based violence, peer influence, and the role of speaking out when something doesn’t feel right. It reflects on the impact of everyday behaviours while promoting positive change and awareness.
Through a striking solo performance, Rónán demonstrates the versatility, emotional depth, and character development that are at the heart of acting. It’s a strong example of how theatre can open up dialogue and inspire reflection.
Having reached over 1,500 young people, the response has been powerful — with many describing the experience as eye-opening and thought-provoking. It’s a testament to the opportunities that continue to shape our alumni in theatre, film, and the wider performing arts industry.
