September marked an exciting milestone for Performance Preparation Academy (PPA) as we welcomed our first cohort of students onto our new BA (Hons) Singing and Acting course.
As a new addition to our performing arts training, the course brings together singing, acting, voice and movement, giving students the opportunity to explore their individual strengths and develop their skills as versatile performers.
Bringing Singing and Acting Together
At the heart of the course is the relationship between singing and acting. Students are developing their vocal technique across musical theatre, pop, folk and contemporary styles, while exploring how storytelling and emotional connection can bring a song to life.
Alongside this, acting classes introduce a range of techniques to help students create truthful, engaging characters and discover their own approach to performance. Weekly one-to-one singing sessions provide time to focus on individual voices, while voice and movement training helps students build the strength, control and stamina needed for a career on stage.
Learning Through Performance
Practical experience is an important part of training at PPA. Through collaborative projects, students learn to bring their singing, acting and movement skills together, explore different theatrical styles and develop their confidence working as part of an ensemble.
As they progress through the course, students will also build their repertoire, work with industry professionals and gain experience of the creative and professional demands of performance. Their training will culminate in third-year public productions or showcases, marking an important step towards life in the industry.
Looking Ahead
The launch of our BA (Hons) Singing and Acting course marks an exciting new chapter for PPA. As our first cohort settles into training, we look forward to seeing their skills develop, their creativity flourish and the work they create together.
We’re delighted to see this new course get underway and look forward to following our students’ journeys over the coming years.
Here’s to the beginning of something special at PPA!
