De Montford University Supporting PPA's performing arts top up degree

This performing arts top up degree/musical theatre top up degree is a one-year online course that allows students who already have (or expect to achieve) a Diploma, foundation degree or equivalent qualification in a Performing Arts (Musical Theatre, Dance or Acting) to build on their qualification to a BA Hons performing arts degree.

It can be accessed and completed online which will allow students to complete this alongside other commitments.

Entry Requirements

The applicant will need to have achieved a Diploma in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre, Dance, Acting) from a recognised Drama school.

The Application process will involve a 500 word piece of writing based on a question provided by the institution, the necessary qualifications and an interview with the academic panel.

Module 1

Pioneers of Performance (20 credits)

Online tutor-led sessions will orientate students to the innovations and practices of key figures in dance, drama and musical theatre. Students will have the opportunity to interrogate the relationship between the practitioners’ concepts and their practical application in performance-making.

MODULE 2

Professional Development Portfolio (40 credits)

This module spans the entire year and requires the student to select an area of interest within the performance industry and to evaluate its current practices and challenges. Students will reflect upon their own professional development and situate themselves within the wider debates within their chosen field.

Module 3

Theories of Performance (20 credits)

Online tutor-led sessions will explore key theories which inform and influence contemporary creative practice. Students will have the opportunity to consider the differing ‘critical lenses’ through which theatre is created, produced and received.

MODULE 4

Dissertation (40 credits)

Tutor-led sessions will orient students in research methods, skills in writing and refining ideas, and the process of crafting a dissertation. Students will then select a topic to explore and research. Students will be assigned a supervisor who will offer tutorial support during the writing process.
