Overview

Our Performing Arts Teaching Qualification courses last 36 weeks and are held at PPA for 2 hours each week. During the teaching qualification course, students learn how to work with varying abilities, age groups and personalities. You will discover how to plan and deliver a taught programme for a specific learner or group of learners in a given setting and reflect upon its effectiveness. The qualification is of particular value to those working with individuals and small groups in after school clubs, studios, young people’s theatre and colleges. It’s assessment standards are comparable to those of other qualifications available at Level 4 in the Qualifications and Credit Framework or to the first year of degree-level study, and includes both practical and written units of work.

Students finish the teaching courses feeling they have the confidence, experience and knowledge to fully prepare class plans and individual schemes of work.

Prerequisities

The minimum age for this qualification is 18 on date of registration. There are no formal prerequisites but candidates are advised that they should expect to dedicate significant time outside of timetable for Independent learning. Self-study, reading, writing, preparation and revision is an essential element if students can expect to successfully pass appropriate to this level of qualification. As part of the qualification you will be required to gain valuable work experience outside of timetabled classes, working with children at varying ages in a performance setting; and will be required to obtain and pay for a clean DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate on commencement of the course.
