'24' - 2019

This course, designed over three intensive terms, is highly vocational and is constructed to help each student achieve their potential in all three disciplines – Acting, Singing and Dance. Doing so  will give you the tools to continue your training in a three year degree or diploma course, eventually leading to a career in the performing arts industry. We will help you discover where your strengths and weaknesses lie, what courses and colleges best suit you and your goals as a performer beyond training.

We will be getting to know you and your skills as a performer. Most of your classes will be technique based to ensure you are laying the correct foundations across all disciplines. You will be streamed in some classes to allow that development to be assessed correctly. We will be researching and collating the most up to date information on all relevant courses available to you, including what is required from you at the audition point. This will follow through in your other classes to  prepare you for auditions in the coming terms. As a year group you will be working closely together to undertake tasks and develop as a performer creatively and intellectually.

We will continue with your technique classes but the emphasis will shift to specific repertoire for the audition season, where you will work closely with your course leader and other members of staff to ensure you are fully prepared and are choosing the correct material to excel in each and every audition.

Alongside your continued classes, we will prepare for your showcase. This will be a performance in our resident theatre – The Bellerby Studio Theatre for your friends and family. The showcase will include three musicals adapted to 20 minutes. The musicals will be chosen with the specific year group in mind to showcase everyone to their best and show your progression through your training throughout the year. We then will see you graduate and move on to your preferred places of study, wherever they may be, with the skills and knowledge you have learnt in this intensive years course that will carry you through to your next stage of training and into the industry.

One of the major advantages of being at PPA on our foundation courses are our outreach programmes: we have programmes with colleges such as Arts Educational Schools London, Royal Welsh College, ALRA and with our own PPA 3 Year Professional Diploma in Musical Theatre.

PPA are visited regularly by senior figures at these colleges to talk to students about their respective courses, and also to take workshops on audition procedures and techniques specific to their particular establishments (together with further advice about the business in general).

We will arrange for the colleges to audition our students at the most beneficial time for our students; at the height of their training. It is our aim at PPA, for all of our students to achieve places at any of these top colleges on a 3 year Diploma or BA Hons Course.
